Indian Super League (ISL) outfit Mohun Bagan Super Giant announced the signing of midfielder Lalengmawia Ralte on a five-year deal from Mumbai City FC. Known as Apuia, Ralte spent three seasons with Mumbai City, winning both a League Shield and an ISL Cup.
“I am incredibly honoured and excited to join Mohun Bagan Super Giant, a club that holds a special place in Indian football history,” said Ralte. “I am eager to work hard, learn from my coaches and teammates, and contribute my best to help Mohun Bagan SG achieve its goals. I am grateful for this opportunity and can’t wait to step onto the field and give my all for the club and its passionate supporters.”
Ralte will join a formidable midfield lineup that includes Joni Kauko, Anirudh Thapa, Sahal Abdul Samad, and Deepak Tangri. Mohun Bagan SG head coach Jose Molina expressed his enthusiasm about Ralte’s addition. “Apuia is a great reinforcement for our midfield. He has been an important player in the league in recent seasons, becoming crucial for the Indian national team as well. It will help us generate internal competition that will improve team performance,” Molina stated.
Ralte’s career began at the AIFF Elite Academy. He was the only player from Mizoram in India’s squad for the FIFA U17 World Cup in 2017. After two impressive seasons with the Indian Arrows in the I-League, Ralte joined NorthEast United for the 2019-20 ISL season. His strong performances led to a move to Mumbai City FC, where he became a key player, featuring in all league games and contributing significantly to the team’s success.
In the 2023-24 season, Ralte played a more attacking role but later returned to a deeper midfield position, helping Mumbai City FC secure the ISL Cup. His signing is expected to bring significant strength and versatility to Mohun Bagan SG’s midfield for the upcoming seasons.
