The Meteorological Centre in Srinagar has issued predictions for the weather in Jammu and Kashmir, forecasting widespread light to moderate rain over the next 48 hours. According to the MeT office, there’s a possibility of scattered light rain on April 12, followed by widespread light to moderate rain on April 13.

    Varied Weather Conditions Expected

From April 13 to 14, the weather is expected to remain cloudy, with forecasts indicating light to moderate rain or snow in many areas, especially over higher reaches. Additionally, thunder, lightning, hailstorms, and gusty winds are expected in a few places. Some plains and higher reaches may even experience heavy rain or snow during this period.

The forecast extends to April 15–17, with chances of light rain or snow over higher reaches in a few places. However, the MeT office warns that the erratic weather patterns may cause temporary disruptions in surface transportation over higher reaches during April 13–14.

    Precautionary Measures Advised

Due to the erratic weather conditions, some low-lying areas may experience waterlogging, while the possibility of landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones could disrupt traffic movement on important highways. Consequently, farmers have been advised to suspend farm operations during this period to avoid any adverse impacts.

    Temperature Fluctuations

While the nighttime temperature in Qazigun and Gulmarg remained unchanged, other weather stations in the Kashmir valley experienced improvements. Srinagar recorded a low of 8.9 degrees Celsius, which was 1.3 degrees Celsius above normal for this time of the season in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.

Pahalgam reported a low of 4.5 degrees Celsius, while Gulmarg recorded 0.6 degrees Celsius. The temperature in Gulmarg was 0.9 degrees Celsius below normal for the ski resort of north Kashmir.
