Massive Seizures Exceed Rs 100 Crore in Telangana Election Crackdown
In the lead-up to the Telangana Assembly elections, the state has witnessed a substantial crackdown on election-related violations, with seizures crossing an astounding Rs 100 crore since the imposition of the model code of conduct on October 9. The crackdown has been relentless, yielding remarkable results as law enforcement agencies have been unearthing various assets associated with electoral misconduct.
A Multifaceted Haul of Illicit Gains
The seizures have been a staggering compilation of assets, as law enforcement agencies confiscated a total of Rs 58.96 crore in cash. In addition, they discovered 64.2 kg of gold, 400 kg of silver, and a dazzling 42.203-carat diamond. The illicit gain list doesn’t stop there; it also includes an assortment of liquor valued at over Rs 6.64 crore, ganja with an estimated worth of Rs 2.97 crore, and various other items and freebies valued at a total of Rs 6.89 crore.
Rapid Accumulation of Seized Assets
The momentum of these seizures has not waned, as the cumulative value of assets seized by law enforcement agencies between October 9, when the Telangana Assembly election schedule was announced, and October 16, has now surpassed an astonishing Rs 109.11 crore. This relentless drive against election-related malpractices underscores the commitment of the authorities to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.
On the Brink of the Polls
With the state’s Assembly elections scheduled for November 30, this crackdown marks a vital stage in the run-up to the polls. Police and various enforcement agencies have intensified their statewide efforts to curb illicit money, drugs, liquor, freebies, and other forms of inducements. The rigorous checking of vehicles is just one of the measures being taken to ensure the elections are conducted in a fair and lawful manner.
As Telangana gears up for its electoral exercise, the relentless pursuit of illicit gains sends a powerful message about the commitment to uphold the democratic principles that underpin the nation’s electoral process.
