Mamata Banerjee Raises Concerns: Alleges Deactivation of Aadhaar Cards Ahead of Lok Sabha Polls
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has raised alarm over the alleged deactivation of Aadhaar cards belonging to SC, ST, and minority communities in the state ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. Accusing the BJP government at the Centre, she claims that this action is a precursor to implementing the National Registrar of Citizens (NRC). Banerjee announced her intention to write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on this matter during a press briefing at the state secretariat.
Serious Allegations: Targeting SC, ST, and Minority Communities
Expressing concern, Banerjee pointed out that a significant number of Aadhaar cards, particularly those belonging to the Matua community, have been deactivated. She highlighted that cards of Scheduled Tribes (STs) and minorities are also being affected. The Chief Minister questioned the timing of these deactivations just before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Political Implications: Potential Link to NRC Implementation
Banerjee accused the BJP government of utilizing Aadhaar card deactivations as a strategy before the elections, suggesting a possible connection to the contentious National Register of Citizens (NRC). The issue adds to the ongoing political tension between the ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Call for Action: Mamata Banerjee to Write to PM Modi
In response to these developments, Mamata Banerjee announced her intention to write a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, bringing attention to the alleged deactivation of Aadhaar cards in West Bengal. The situation adds another layer of complexity to the political landscape as the state gears up for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
