Mamata Banerjee Injured in Car Accident
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee sustained injuries to her forehead in a car accident on her way from Burdwan to Kolkata. The incident occurred when her car suddenly halted to avoid a collision with another vehicle. Due to adverse weather conditions, Banerjee chose to return by road instead of a helicopter. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh expressed wishes for her speedy recovery. The accident comes on a day when Mamata Banerjee announced that Trinamool Congress would contest the upcoming elections in Bengal alone, severing ties with the INDIA bloc.
Trinamool Congress to Contest Alone in Bengal
Mamata Banerjee declared that Trinamool Congress would fight the elections in Bengal independently, ending the alliance with the INDIA bloc. She cited lack of communication from the Congress regarding Rahul Gandhi’s Nyay Yatra passing through Bengal. Banerjee expressed her commitment to defeating the BJP alone in Bengal. The breakdown in the Trinamool-Congress alliance is a significant development ahead of the upcoming polls.
Congress-TMC Alliance Deteriorates
The rift between Trinamool Congress and Congress deepened as Mamata Banerjee accused Congress of rejecting her proposals and not informing her about Rahul Gandhi’s Nyay Yatra in Bengal. This comes after Congress state unit chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury continued his verbal attacks on Mamata Banerjee. The deterioration in the alliance further complicates the political landscape in West Bengal, setting the stage for a more fragmented electoral scenario.
