L&T Mumbai Open: International Tennis Action Returns to Mumbai After Six Years
Players from 31 countries are set to compete in the L&T Mumbai Open, jointly organized by the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA) and Cricket Club of India (CCI). The tournament, making a comeback after a six-year hiatus, boasts a diverse field with participants from around the globe.
International Tennis Stars Headline the Third Edition
The third edition of the L&T Mumbai Open promises an exciting lineup, featuring three top-100 players in singles and six top-100 players in doubles. American Kayla Day, 2016 US Open girls singles champion and world No. 82, leads the 32-player field. Notable participants include Japan’s Nao Hibino, winner of three WTA Tour singles titles, and former French Open semi-finalist Tamara Zidansek, currently ranked 97th in the world.
Tennis Extravaganza at Cricket Club of India
The tournament unfolds at the newly laid tennis courts at the Cricket Club of India, with qualifying matches scheduled for February 3rd and 4th. Main draw action kicks off on February 5, building anticipation for the finals set to take place on February 11. India’s top-ranked doubles player, Prarthana Thombare, along with Dutch partner Arianne Hartono, has a direct entry into the doubles event.
Excitement Builds for Mumbai Tennis Fans
Organizers Sanjay Khandare and Pravin Darade expressed their enthusiasm, highlighting the strong field participating in the event. The return of world-class tennis to Mumbai is a significant moment, with players like Aryna Sabalenka, a two-time Australian Open champion, having claimed her first WTA $125K title in Mumbai in 2017. The organizers anticipate a thrilling week of tennis, urging fans to support the players and make the event a resounding success.
