In a remarkable display of civic engagement and commitment to cleanliness, Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha actively participated in the “One Hour of citizen-led shramdaan for Swachhata campaign” and spearheaded a thorough cleanliness and de-weeding drive at the iconic Dal Lake. The Lt Governor stood shoulder to shoulder with citizens from diverse backgrounds, who had gathered in significant numbers to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi through this act of service and cleanliness.
Garbage-Free India Vision: A Collective Responsibility
In a profound statement, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha highlighted the intrinsic connection between cleanliness and the quality of life. He expressed his joy in witnessing a transformation in society’s ambition, where the dream of garbage-free cities and villages is no longer a mere fantasy but a tangible reality. He reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Union Territory Administration to bolster the Swachhata movement in the region, recognizing its far-reaching consequences.
Milestone Achievement: ODF PLUS Status for 100% Villages
At the Union Territory-level event, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha extended his congratulations to both the citizens and the administration for achieving the Open Defecation Free (ODF) PLUS status for 100% of the villages in Jammu and Kashmir under the “Model” category. He hailed this historic milestone as a testament to their collective determination in building vibrant villages filled with newfound potential, possibilities, and self-confidence. The Lt Governor also administered the Swachhata Pledge to officials and citizens alike, further solidifying their commitment to cleanliness.
In addition to his significant contributions to the cleanliness drive, the Lt Governor flagged off a fleet of Shikaras and actively participated in the cleanup efforts at Char Chinar. Furthermore, he engaged with school students on Golden Island in Dal Lake, encouraging them to become “Swachhagrahis” and take ownership of the cleanliness movement. The event saw the participation of prominent figures, including Sh Junaid Azim Mattu, Mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation; Sh Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Advisor to Lt Governor; Dr Arun Kumar Mehta, Chief Secretary; and various other distinguished personalities from diverse fields.
