Leaked Pakistan Secret Cypher Exposes US Role in Ouster of Imran Khan
NEW DELHI, MAY 19 [VoM News]: The leaked classified documents have created a stir in Pakistani politics and politics on the global scale, as the “Cypher” has exposed the United States over the removal of the elected government of Imran Khan in April 2022.
Imran Khan was ousted as Prime Minister of Pakistan and had alleged a foreign conspiracy tied to the Pakistani military behind his removal, which the United States denied at that time.
But now, as the document has gone viral on social media after an investigative news outlet, Drop News Site, published it, it has created a new wave of pressure politics, shaking the political arena on a global scale.
The main crux was, “All would be forgiven if the no-confidence motion against Imran Khan succeeded, else it would be a tough way ahead for Pakistan,” allegedly suggested by Donald Lu. The cable claimed that Pakistan’s relations with Europe and the United States could suffer if Imran Khan remained in power.
As Imran Khan has maintained that a foreign conspiracy executed by the powerful military establishment was behind his ouster, supporters now argue that the claims were right and validate the stand of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Since Khan’s ouster, the country has not remained on the right track so far. Widespread protests, political crackdowns, arrests of opposition leaders and supporters, and increasing restrictions on press freedom have also been reported.
Several journalists were allegedly abducted following reporting on sensitive issues, while some went abroad. Political leaders are still reportedly in hiding.
The most concerning reports relate to Pakistan’s foreign policy, as Imran Khan had taken a stand of neutrality in the Russia-Ukraine war and maintained close ties with Russia and China, which was allegedly unacceptable to the American establishment.
After Khan’s removal from office, the new setup appeared closer to Washington and Western allies. There were also reports of Pakistan supplying military ammunition and assistance linked to Ukraine, a visible step towards Washington’s policy.
The United States had formally rejected the allegations of involvement, calling them false, misleading, and disinformation, whereas Pakistan’s powerful military has repeatedly denied interfering in politics.
However, supporters of Imran Khan argue that the leaked documents indicate that pressure from the United States contributed to Khan’s ouster as Prime Minister.
