Kieron Pollard Joins England Coaching Staff for T20 World Cup
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced that former West Indies captain Kieron Pollard will be part of England’s coaching staff for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The tournament is scheduled to be jointly held across the Caribbean islands and the USA next year.
Kieron Pollard, who retired from all forms of cricket in April 2022, brings a wealth of experience to the coaching team. He was a key member of the West Indies squad that secured victory in the 2012 T20 World Cup and has an impressive record of 637 T20 matches in his career.
In a media release, the ECB stated, “Former West Indies captain Kieron Pollard has been appointed to the England Men’s coaching team for next year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the West Indies and United States.” Pollard’s role will be that of an assistant coach, with a specific focus on providing expertise regarding the local conditions during the tournament.
During his playing career, Pollard captained the West Indies in 63 T20 Internationals, amassing 1,569 runs and taking 42 wickets from 101 matches. Known for his all-round skills, Pollard was a crucial part of the Mumbai Indians, contributing significantly to their success with five IPL titles under the leadership of Rohit Sharma.
Despite parting ways with the Mumbai Indians, Pollard remains active in franchise cricket. Most notably, he recently led the Trinbago Knight Riders to the final of the Caribbean Premier League, showcasing his continued impact in the T20 format.
