JP-Nadda Resigns from Himachal Pradesh Rajya Sabha Seat
In a significant political move, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief JP Nadda tendered his resignation from the Rajya Sabha seat representing Himachal Pradesh. However, this resignation comes with a twist, as Nadda is set to maintain his position as a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament from Gujarat. This strategic decision hints at a larger political shift within the party.

The resignation was swiftly acknowledged by Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, who officially accepted Nadda’s departure from the Himachal seat. Nadda’s decision to step down from the Himachal Pradesh seat aligns with his recent unopposed election to the upper house from Gujarat. The term for his Himachal Pradesh seat was initially scheduled to conclude in April 2024. Despite the resignation, Nadda will continue to serve as a Rajya Sabha MP, now representing Gujarat, showcasing the intricate political maneuvering within the BJP leadership.

In the backdrop of these changes, the BJP further solidifies its presence in the Rajya Sabha. In recent elections, four BJP MPs from Gujarat, including party president JP Nadda, secured seats in the upper house. This strategic placement in key positions indicates the party’s proactive approach to maintaining influence and control.
In a separate political move, the BJP demonstrated its strategic planning by releasing the first list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. The list showcases diversity, featuring 47 youth candidates, 28 women candidates, 27 Scheduled Caste (SC) representatives, 18 Scheduled Tribes (ST) candidates, and 57 OBC/Backward Class nominees. This early announcement underscores the BJP’s commitment to presenting a varied and dynamic face in the upcoming elections.
