JKLC Demands Minimum Wages and Pension for Lamberdars and Chowkidars
Doda: The Jammu Kashmir Lamberdars and Chowkidars Union (JKLC), Doda unit, has submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Doda, Sh. Harvinder Singh, IAS, demanding urgent attention to their key issues. The memorandum highlights the following major demands:
- Salary under the Minimum Wages Act: The union has asked for the Lamberdars and Chowkidars to be paid a salary in accordance with the Minimum Wages Act.
- Pension after retirement at age 60: They have requested the provision of a monthly pension for all Lamberdars and Chowkidars who retire at the age of 60.
- Issuance of identity cards: The union also seeks identity cards for all Lamberdars and Chowkidars.
Mukesh Parihar, Chairman of the JKLC (Phone number: 8492866752), emphasized the dire financial situation faced by Lamberdars and Chowkidars in District Doda, stating, “We are paid only Rs 1501 for Lamberdars and Rs 1500 for Chowkidars per month, which is insufficient to sustain our families.” He further highlighted that many newly recruited Lamberdars and Chowkidars are now educated and familiar with the latest technologies used in the Revenue Department, making their tasks more complex.
Despite the increased workload, the wages remain low. “Lamberdari and Chowkidari are our primary occupations, but we are struggling to pay school fees and live in miserable conditions,” said Parihar. He urged the government to bring Lamberdars and Chowkidars under the Minimum Wages Act, issue identity cards, and provide a pension for those retiring at 60.
