JK Elections Will Be Easier This Time: Azad
In a significant statement, Ghulam Nabi Azad, leader of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), emphasized that the diverse political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir provides an advantageous scenario for the residents to elect a government aligned with their interests. Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Azad, a former chief minister of the region, highlighted that both national and regional parties have previously governed Jammu and Kashmir, paving the way for a more informed electoral decision-making process.

Responding to allegations labeling DPAP as a “B Team” of the BJP, Azad candidly refuted the claims, asserting that some accusers had themselves been associated with the saffron party in the past. He pointed out, “Those who call us the BJP’s ‘B Team’ were with them, they were ‘A Teams’ of the BJP. One leader had even begun his political career as a minister in a BJP government.” Azad clarified that his political history has no affiliations with the BJP, unlike some of his critics.
Azad delved into the historical alliances between the BJP and other major parties in the region, such as the National Conference and the People’s Democratic Party. He emphasized his independence from any BJP association during his tenures as both a minister and chief minister.

Reflecting on the unique political dynamics of Jammu and Kashmir, Azad expressed skepticism regarding the potential impact of the Modi wave in the region. He highlighted the distinctiveness of Jammu and Kashmir, citing its composite culture as a factor that makes it challenging to predict the sway of national political trends.
Commenting on Arun Goel’s resignation as an election commissioner and the possibility of him entering politics, Azad downplayed any potential adverse effects. Drawing on precedents, he noted that several senior officers have resigned to pursue political careers in the past and asserted that such a move would unlikely disrupt the political landscape or the functioning of the Election Commission.
