Jammu-Poonch Highway Bus Accident, 21 dead, 60 injured

At least 21 people died while more than 60 others were left injured after a bus rolled down in a deep gorge in the Tanda Morh on the Jammu Poonch Highway in the Akhnoor area. Soon after the incident, a rescue operation was launched, said an official.

The bus was coming from Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras. Meanwhile, the injured have been shifted to the Akhnoor hospital. “A bus carrying passengers from Hathras, Uttar Pradesh has met with an accident near Tanda, Akhnoor in Jammu,” Deputy Commissioner Jammu said. This comes hours after the engine of the Sampark Kranti Express derailed at Jammu railway station on Thursday, officials said.

No one got injured in the incident. As the train arrived at the railway station from New Delhi today, one wheel of the engine went off the track, causing the train to come to a halt, the officials said. President Murmu Expresses Her Condolences President Droupadi Murmu shared her deepest condolences for the families of those who lost their lives in the accident.

Taking to X, she said, “Pained beyond words to learn about the loss of lives in a bus accident in Akhnoor near Jammu. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families. I wish speedy recovery of the injured.” The Lieutenant Governor Of Jammu and Kashmir also took to his official account and expresses condolences for the loss of lives.

Calling the accident ‘heart-rending’, he said, ” I condole the loss of lives and pray to the almighty to give the bereaved families the strength to bear the irreparable loss. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured.
