Jaiswals Maiden Double Century Powers India in Second Test; Anderson’s Dual Role Adds Drama
In the ongoing second Test in Visakhapatnam, Yashasvi Jaiswal showcased a remarkable performance, notching up his maiden Test double century to propel India against England. Jaiswal’s stellar innings saw him amass 209 runs from 290 deliveries, featuring 19 boundaries and seven sixes. Despite his commanding contribution, he was dismissed by James Anderson in the 107th over, unable to execute a successful pull shot.
James Anderson remained a central figure on Day 2, claiming two wickets and engaging in a heated exchange with Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin. Ashwin, fueled by success, provoked Anderson by dispatching him for a few boundaries. The tensions escalated, and Ashwin was observed arguing at the non-striker’s end, possibly about Anderson’s run-up.
Frustration mounted for Anderson, but he ultimately had the last laugh as he dismissed Ashwin with an impressive delivery in the 101st over. Anderson’s full-length ball leapt off the surface, found the outside edge of Ashwin’s bat, and grazed the pad before reaching the wicketkeeper. Despite Ashwin challenging the decision, UltraEdge displayed a clear spike near the bat.
Returning to the overall match, India concluded their first innings at 396, achieved in 112 overs. England, in response, reached 32 for no loss by lunch on the second day, with Ben Duckett (17*) and Zak Crawley (15*) at the crease. Anderson, Rehan Ahmed, and Shoaib Bashir each secured three wickets for England during India’s innings.
