Islamabad High Court Summons Caretaker PM in Missing Baloch Students Case
Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar ul Haq Kakar has been directed by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to appear personally on November 29 in connection with the case of missing Baloch students. This summons follows the government’s failure to locate the students despite the court’s previous orders. Advocate Imaan Mazari initiated the case, prompting the court to instruct the government to present the 55 missing students based on the recommendations of the Baloch Enforced Disappearance Commission.
Meanwhile, the court has summoned defense and interior ministers, along with secretaries from both ministries. A report from the federal government committee is expected within a week. Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani expressed dissatisfaction with the committee’s report, calling it a “matter of shame for this court” and rejecting it outright.
Additional Attorney General Munawwar Iqbal Dogal faced criticism during the hearing, with Justice Kayani highlighting the lack of progress despite 21 hearings. The judge emphasized that the commission’s purpose was to recover missing individuals and criticized the government’s failure to act. The court stated its commitment to ensuring the implementation of its orders and highlighted the state’s responsibility in ensuring the safe return of the missing persons.
The judge questioned whether the matter should be escalated to the United Nations, emphasizing the urgency of the situation. As the court takes on the executive’s role, it underscores the need for decisive action to honor the country’s commitment to justice and human rights.
