IndiaVsSouthAfrica Ist-ODI: India’s Stellar Bowling Performance Restricts South Africa to 116 in 1st ODI
At The Wanderers, South African skipper Aiden Markram chose to bat first against KL Rahul’s Indian side. However, the Proteas struggled to build momentum, losing wickets at regular intervals.
India’s Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan dominated the Proteas’ innings, causing major disruptions. Singh’s five-wicket haul and Khan’s crucial four-wicket contribution decimated South Africa’s batting line-up.
Early dismissals of Hendricks and Dussen in the second over set the tone, followed by Singh’s impactful wickets at crucial intervals. Khan continued the onslaught, dismissing key players, including Markram and Mulder in quick succession.
Singh’s final over saw the dismissal of Andile Phehlukwayo, ensuring a complete rout. Kuldeep Yadav closed the innings in style, leaving South Africa at a lowly 116 runs in 27.3 overs.
While Andile Phehlukwayo top-scored with 33, aided by Tony de Zorzi’s 28, the rest of the South African lineup failed to make a significant impact.
This ODI series marks the return of key players like KL Rahul, Sanju Samson, and Yuzvendra Chahal. Rahul confirmed Samson’s role in the middle order and wicket-keeping for the team.
However, just before the match, Deepak Chahar had to withdraw due to a family emergency, replaced by Akash Deep in the Indian squad.
