ASSAM 02 JULY, 2024 :- In a daring and heroic rescue operation, the Indian Air Force (IAF) saved 13 people stranded on a small island in the flooded Brahmaputra River, north of Dibrugarh in Assam.

The operation, carried out on 02 July 2024, showcased the courage and skill of the IAF personnel as they braved challenging weather conditions to ensure the safety of those marooned.

The rescue mission began with a sunrise takeoff from Air Force Station Mohanbari. The Mi-17 IV helicopter, manned by a skilled crew, took off in less-than-ideal weather conditions, demonstrating the IAF’s readiness to respond to emergencies despite environmental challenges.

The flooded Brahmaputra River, swollen from recent heavy rains, had isolated the survivors on a marshy piece of land, making the rescue operation even more complex.

The success of the mission was a testament to the coordinated efforts of the helicopter’s pilot and flight gunner. The duo worked in perfect sync to ensure the safe and prompt boarding of all 13 survivors.
