Public Property Damaged by Flash Floods
Heavy rain during the early hours of the day led to flash floods in several nallahs (small streams) in areas like Trikuta Nagar, Nanak Nagar, Gangyal, and adjacent regions. The intense rainfall caused the nallahs in Nanak Nagar, Preet Nagar, and Trikuta Nagar to overflow, flooding several streets and lanes. This resulted in water entering many homes and businesses, causing substantial damage to public property.
Car Swept Away, Tractor Rescue
A car parked in a flooded lane was washed away and ended up trapped in a nallah. A tractor was eventually used to pull the car out of the water. Residents woke up to find floodwaters in their homes and began pumping water out of their premises. However, the water began to recede after 5 am.
Anger Towards Authorities
In some areas, residents expressed frustration with the local authorities, particularly the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), for what they perceived as inadequate drain maintenance and cleaning. They insisted that the JMC should address the issue promptly and ensure proper cleanliness of both shallow and deep drains in the area.
Rain Intensity and Impact
Locals noted that the morning’s rainfall was of high intensity, leading to accumulations of about 1-2 feet of water in their compounds and rooms. This resulted in damage to their belongings, including electronic gadgets. Additionally, the power supply in the area was affected for an extended period. This heavy rainfall was the most intense in the past month.
