Hafeez Believes Pakistan Outplayed Australia Despite Series Loss
Team director Mohammad Hafeez expressed his belief that Pakistan showcased superior cricket compared to Australia, despite falling short in the series after a 79-run loss in the second Test on Friday.
Pakistan found themselves in a promising position, needing 98 runs for a series-levelling victory with a score of 219 for 5. The match appeared poised for a thrilling conclusion. However, Australia’s captain, Pat Cummins, and Mitchell Starc delivered a memorable fast bowling spell, securing a second consecutive triumph for the hosts.
Following the game, an emotionally charged Hafeez asserted that Pakistan had outplayed their opponents. He stated, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo, “We played better cricket as a team. I’m proud of that. The team demonstrated the courage to approach the game in the best possible manner. In summarizing the match, the Pakistan team, overall, played better than the other team. Our batting intent was superior, and in bowling, we consistently hit the right areas. Despite some mistakes that proved costly, I believe there were numerous positives as a team, enough to secure a victory. Unfortunately, in the end, we fell short of winning the game.”
