Fundamental Rights Under Attack, Progressive Ideology Ignored: Sharad Pawar
Addressing a function in Kolhapur, senior politician Sharad Pawar expressed concern over the alleged attack on fundamental rights in the country. He claimed that the government is indifferent to progressive ideology and called for a united stand against “regressive” powers. Pawar highlighted instances of power misuse, suppression of free voices, restrictions on free writing, and news channel blockades. He criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s brief presence during Parliament sessions, referring to it as theatrics, and raised concerns about growing intolerance, citing incidents like the arrest of former Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren and the attack on the ‘Nirbhay Bano’ event organizers in Pune.
Growing Intolerance: A Call for Unity Against “Regressive” Forces
Pawar emphasized the need for a united front against rising intolerance, misuse of central agencies like the ED, and differing standards for those with opposing views. He called for support for oppressed individuals, stating that the fight extends beyond elections. Pawar urged like-minded progressive powers to come together, asserting that fighting regressive tendencies would be a real tribute to slain leftist leader Govind Pansare. Pansare was shot in 2015 and succumbed to his injuries, with Pawar recalling the murders of other rationalists like Narendra Dabholkar and MM Kalburgi.
