A devastating fire engulfed Gwari Market in Doda’s Changa, reducing more than a dozen commercial shops to ashes. The incident occurred in the intervening night, causing extensive damage worth lakhs of rupees. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported.
Local authorities, aided by residents, worked tirelessly to extinguish the flames and bring the situation under control. However, by the time the fire was contained, the shops had already suffered significant damage.
Angered by the absence of a fire tender service in the area, locals staged a protest, highlighting the urgent need for better firefighting facilities. They emphasized the necessity of having a fire tender stationed at the sub-divisional headquarters, which is currently distant from the affected area. Had such provisions been in place, the extent of the damage could have been minimized.
Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and DPAP President, Ghulam Nabi Azad, voiced his concern over the inadequate fire tender service. In a video message, Azad extended his sympathies to the victims and urged authorities to provide immediate compensation for their losses.
In a tweet, Ghulam Nabi Azad, DPAP President, expressed profound distress over the Bhallessa market fire. He urged swift deployment of firetenders and immediate compensation for the victims, emphasizing the urgent need for action.
