Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, delivered a heartfelt tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. Dr. Abdullah emphasized that this day isn’t just a commemoration of Gandhi’s birth but also a celebration of his enduring principles of non-violence, social justice, and communal harmony. He noted that Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy had a profound impact on the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

In his address, Dr. Farooq Abdullah underlined how Mahatma Gandhi’s vision had provided a ray of hope to Jammu and Kashmir during tumultuous times when communal tensions gripped the rest of the nation. He expressed how the people of J&K had found inspiration in Gandhi’s tireless efforts. Gandhi’s message of non-violence resonated deeply with the people of the region.

Gandhi’s Influence on ‘Naya Kashmir’
Dr. Abdullah went on to elaborate that it was Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of a free India that had helped shape the dream of ‘Naya Kashmir,’ a vision of a new, progressive Jammu and Kashmir. Gandhi’s ideology played a pivotal role in aligning J&K with India. The leader stressed the importance of preserving and strengthening these values in today’s context.
During the event, leaders of the National Conference also discussed the challenges faced by the people of the Jammu region due to the absence of a popular government and the policies of the current administration. Additionally, they deliberated on the upcoming elections, highlighting the need for a fair and inclusive electoral process.
In a gesture of compassion, Dr. Abdullah and other party leaders visited the residence of Pyare Lal Handoo, a former Minister, to offer condolences for the untimely and tragic loss of his son, Rajinder Handoo. Their sympathy and support were conveyed to the grieving family.
