Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly has been appointed as the Brand Ambassador of West Bengal, a role announced by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the opening of the seventh Bengal Global Business Summit in Kolkata. Recognizing Ganguly’s popularity and his potential to inspire the youth, the Chief Minister expressed her desire to involve him in this pivotal role for the state’s development.

In her address, Mamata Banerjee highlighted the unity and diversity of West Bengal. She referenced Rabindranath Tagore’s national anthem as a symbol of unity, emphasizing that her government does not divide people into different communities.
Celebrating Cultural Festivities
The Chief Minister also mentioned the state’s inclusive approach to cultural celebrations, illustrating this by mentioning the equal enthusiasm with which both Durga Puja and Christmas are celebrated in West Bengal. She shared that the state government had financially supported 48,000 clubs for their creative displays during Durga Puja.
Promoting Local Employment and Craftsmanship
Mamata Banerjee pointed out the state’s efforts to promote local employment and craftsmanship. She mentioned the initiative of sourcing school uniforms from within the state, providing jobs to local women weavers, thereby boosting local employment and economy.
