ED Searches Delhi MP Sanjay Singh’s Residence in Money Laundering Case
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted searches at the residence of Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh in Delhi as part of a money laundering investigation related to the contentious liquor policy case that has been a matter of concern for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). This development adds Mr. Singh to the list of prominent AAP figures, including Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who have faced raids, interrogations, or arrests, or a combination thereof, in connection with alleged corruption linked to the now-repealed liquor sales policy introduced by the Delhi government in 2021.

Manish Sisodia’s Arrest and Defiance
Manish Sisodia, who was arrested in March, has faced multiple unsuccessful attempts to secure bail. In a display of defiance before the recent raids, Sanjay Singh posed beside posters outside his residence, seemingly “welcoming” the Enforcement Directorate. This photo was later shared on social media by the AAP with fire emojis.
Sanjay Singh Implicated by Dinesh Arora
The latest raids on Sanjay Singh’s residence follow his implication by businessman Dinesh Arora, who was initially an accused in the case but later turned ‘approver’ and provided significant information to the authorities. Dinesh Arora was granted bail on August 1. The agency’s belief is that Sanjay Singh facilitated the meeting between Dinesh Arora and Manish Sisodia, who faced arrests by both the Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation at the time when he served as the Delhi government’s excise minister.
Controversy Surrounding Sanjay Singh’s Involvement
While the Enforcement Directorate has filed three chargesheets in the case, it has not officially named Sanjay Singh as an accused or summoned him to provide a statement. However, the agency has made references to the AAP leader in its documents, sparking a significant controversy. Sanjay Singh strongly asserted that there was a conspiracy to tarnish his political reputation and image. He even wrote to the Union Finance Secretary, seeking permission to prosecute the head of the agency for making what he deemed as “false and derogatory claims” against him.
Kejriwal’s Support and Accusations
Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal voiced his support for his colleague and accused the Enforcement Directorate of acting on behalf of a rival political party (without naming it) to target opponents in preparation for the upcoming general election next year. Kejriwal also contended that despite more than a thousand raids, no illegally acquired money had been discovered.
