Dunki Box Office Decline on Day 12: Shah Rukh Khan’s Film Hits ₹196.97 Crore Total Collection Amid Global Success
On the 12th day since its release, Shah Rukh Khan’s latest film, Dunki, witnessed a decline in box office numbers, returning to single-digit figures on the first day of 2024. According to a Sacnilk.com report, Dunki earned ₹9.25 crore on Monday, bringing its total collection to ₹196.97 crore. The film, which hit theaters on December 21, had an overall occupancy rate of 30.8 percent for its New Year shows, with Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi, and Bengaluru hosting the majority of screenings during the festive season.
In a tweet, the portal expressed excitement about the promising start of 2024 at the Indian box office, mentioning that Dunki, along with Salaar, contributed to a combined gross of close to 30 crores. Other films like Animal, Sam Bahadur, Neru, Kaatera, and Hi Nanna also showed solid performance, setting the stage for a positive year ahead.
Dunki, directed by Rajkumar Hirani and featuring Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Boman Irani, Vikram Kochhar, and Anil Grover, marks Shah Rukh Khan’s final release of 2023. Despite the decline in domestic box office numbers, the film has maintained a strong global presence, with expectations of entering the ₹400 crore club at the international box office. Red Chillies Entertainment, the film’s producer, shared a poster on X (formerly known as Twitter) celebrating the film’s global box office collection of ₹380.6 crore.
Dunki tells the heartwarming story of four friends—Manu, Sukhi, Buggu, and Balli—and sheds light on the challenges of the “donkey flight,” an illegal immigration method. The friends aspire to settle in London for a better life, embarking on a challenging yet transformative journey. Shah Rukh Khan, portrayed as Hardy, plays a pivotal role in coming to their aid during their pursuit of a brighter future.
