As the residents of Kashmir endured yet another bitterly cold night, the meteorological department announced on Sunday that dry and chilly weather is expected to persist in Jammu and Kashmir until December 16.
According to a meteorological department spokesperson, Srinagar experienced a low of minus 4.4°C, a slight improvement from the previous night’s minus 4.6°C. The minimum temperatures remained below freezing across Kashmir, with Konibal recording the coldest temperature at minus 6.0 degrees Celsius. Qazigund reported a minimum of minus 3.0°C compared to the previous night’s minus 2.8°C, registering a deviation of 2.2°C below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.
Pahalgam saw a low of minus 5.5°C, down from the previous night’s minus 5.0°C, and was 2.3°C below normal. In Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, the temperature dropped to minus 2.0°C from minus 2.3°C on the previous night, with a deviation of 1.3°C below normal.In north Kashmir’s Kupwara town, the minimum temperature was recorded at minus 3.4°C, a slight decrease from the previous night’s minus 3.0°C, with a deviation of 1.2°C below normal.
Gulmarg, the renowned skiing resort in north Kashmir, reported a low of minus 4.2°C, slightly below the previous night’s minus 4.3°C and 0.5°C below normal.Jammu witnessed a minimum temperature of 7.1°C, a drop from 8.1°C on the previous night, and it was below normal by 2.9°C for the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir. Other locations in the region, such as Banihal, recorded 0.2°C, Batote 2.5°C, Bhaderwah 0.2°C, and Ramban 3.0°C.
The meteorological department has forecasted predominantly dry and cold weather in Jammu and Kashmir until December 16.
The spokesperson mentioned, “Dry and cold weather is likely to continue until the 16th of December,” and added, “Shallow to moderate fog is expected to persist in many places of the Kashmir Division.”
