(VoM)…….Late Tuesday night, a brief exchange of fire occurred between security forces and terrorists in the Bhatta area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district, according to the Jammu and Kashmir Police. The encounter has resulted in the loss of four soldiers in the Desa Forest area.
The soldiers who lost their lives have been identified as Captain Brijesh Thapa, Naik D Rajesh, Sepoy Bijendra, and Sepoy Ajay. The Indian Army conveyed their condolences, with General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of Army Staff, stating that the Army stands firm with the bereaved families during this difficult time.
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also expressed his condolences, stating, “Deeply saddened by the loss of our brave and courageous Indian Army soldiers in a counter-terrorism operation in Urrar Baggi, Doda (J&K). My heart goes out to the bereaved families. The nation stands firmly with the families of our soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.”
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commented on the incident, emphasizing the government’s commitment to responding to “Pakistan-sponsored terrorism” and maintaining peace in Jammu and Kashmir.
The encounter began based on specific intelligence inputs, leading to a joint operation by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police. The firefight with terrorists commenced around 9 PM on Monday. Security forces continue to search the area to ensure the region’s safety.
Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi has briefed Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on the situation in Doda. The operations to eliminate the remaining terrorist threat and restore peace in the region are still ongoing.
