Delhi Minister Atishi Raises Alarm: Kejriwal’s Arrest Imminent in Alliance Talks
In a surprising turn of events, Delhi minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi has issued a warning, asserting that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal could face arrest within the next three to four days if AAP decides to form an alliance with Congress or the opposition’s Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Threats and Messages Intensify Amid Alliance Discussions
Addressing a press conference, Atishi disclosed that numerous AAP leaders have been receiving messages and threats related to the potential arrest of Arvind Kejriwal. The threats imply possible actions by investigative agencies such as the CBI and ED. As the talks regarding an alliance with Congress progress, the intensity of these threats has escalated, with the claim that Kejriwal might receive a CBI notice under CrPC Section 41 A, leading to his arrest.
Conditions for Keeping Delhi CM Out of Jail
According to Atishi, messengers have conveyed that the only way to prevent Arvind Kejriwal from landing in jail is for AAP to withdraw from the INDIA alliance, which is currently being considered by the party. The minister highlights the urgency of this decision, stating that AAP is being coerced into abandoning the alliance with Congress to safeguard the Chief Minister from potential legal repercussions.
AAP-Congress Alliance on the Brink of Finalization
Simultaneously, the alliance talks between AAP and Congress in Delhi for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls are reaching their conclusion. Sources suggest that AAP is likely to contest four out of the seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi, leaving the remaining three for its alliance partner, the Congress. One proposed arrangement involves Congress contesting East, Chandani Chowk, and North East Lok Sabha seats, while AAP takes on New Delhi, West Delhi, South Delhi, and North West Lok Sabha seats. However, an official announcement regarding the seat-sharing agreement is still pending. It is worth noting that AAP has announced its decision to go solo in Punjab for the Lok Sabha elections.
In the current scenario, all seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi are held by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), maintaining its winning streak since 2014. The unfolding alliance dynamics and the looming specter of legal actions against Kejriwal add a layer of uncertainty to the political landscape in the capital.
