Delhi CM Kejriwal Agrees to Virtual Appearance Before ED, Requests Date After March 12
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, in response to the eighth summons from the Directorate of Enforcement (ED), has deemed the summon as “illegal” in connection to a money laundering probe related to irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22. While asserting the summon’s illegality, Kejriwal has agreed to appear virtually before the agency on any date after March 12. The ED has sought Kejriwal’s statement regarding policy formulation, pre-implementation meetings, and bribery allegations.
Skipped Previous Summons
Kejriwal has previously skipped seven summons, labeling them as “illegal and politically motivated.” The ED is investigating alleged irregularities in the excise policy, accusing AAP of using kickbacks for its election campaign in Goa. The policy was withdrawn amid corruption allegations, prompting legal actions against AAP leaders.
Legal Proceedings
The case, based on an FIR, revolves around the Delhi excise policy, aiming to revitalize the liquor business. The ED has filed charge sheets, and two AAP leaders, Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh, are already under judicial custody in the matter. Kejriwal’s response underscores the ongoing legal complexities and political implications surrounding the case.
