Contractors denied payments stage protest demonstration : Decide to launch agitation

Jammu, Sept 26: One one side Govt is itself saying that works should be completed in time for no cost escalations & to get more funds by providing UCs in particular heads but on the other side Contractors working in various Government departments including R&B, PHE/ Jal Shakti, PDD, JDA, Flood Control , Irrigation Department held strong protest demonstration at Irrigation Complex, Canal Road here today for delayed payments raised a question on Govt?

A large number of contractors under the banner of Registered Contractors Association, Jammu Province, assembled in Irrigation Complex, Canal Road today and held protest demonstration & were shouting slogans in support of their demands and also against the Government for denying them their pending payments worth crores for the last several years.

The contractors led by Association President and General Secretary raised their issues and alleged that despite many representations , their pending payments worth crores have not been released by the concerned authorities.

They pointed out that during last meeting with the Chief Secretary, he denied to release pending payments of prior to 2019, claiming that these payments were not genuine to their great surprise, If so why actions not being taken on the officers, who asked for executions & works has been owned by them.Even the current works payments are being released in break ups of 50 %, 25 % , 25 % etc.

Many contractors have taken loans from the banks and have to pay the interests. It added that denying payments of the works done to the contractors is most unjustified and unfair & there was strong resentment among the contractors community against the present Administration due to its attitude.
