Congress Accuses Telangana CM of Election Irregularities
The Congress party in Telangana has launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, alleging that he resorts to unethical practices like distributing cash and alcohol to influence voters in elections. The accusations come just weeks before the state goes to the polls.
Confrontation at Telangana Martyrs Memorial
In a dramatic turn of events, state Congress chief Revanth Reddy confronted Chief Minister KCR by challenging him to join in taking a vow at the Telangana Martyrs Memorial. The vow would commit their parties to refrain from using cash or liquor to sway voters. However, this challenge led to Mr. Reddy’s detention by the police. He was later released.
Congress Claims Lack of Guts in KCR
Revanth Reddy, in a tweet, asserted that Chief Minister KCR lacks the courage to seek votes without resorting to the distribution of money or liquor to voters. The ongoing political clash intensified after leaders from KCR’s party, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), accused the Congress of distributing cash, liquor, and gifts to influence the electorate.
Allegations and Counter-Allegations Amid Seizures
These allegations and counter-allegations occur against the backdrop of significant seizures of unaccounted cash and liquor in the run-up to the elections. Since the implementation of the model code of conduct just eight days ago, authorities have seized a total of Rs 130 crores, a notable increase compared to the Rs 103 crores recovered during the 2018 elections. The Election Commission has reported the seizure of over Rs 71 crore in cash, liquor worth Rs 7.75 crore, ganja valued at Rs 4.58 crore, jewelry worth over Rs 40 crore, and other freebies like laptops, cookers, sarees, sewing machines worth Rs 6.29 crore.
High-Stakes Election in Telangana
The political landscape in Telangana is heating up as the state gears up for its upcoming elections, marked by intense competition and allegations of election irregularities. The outcome of these elections will undoubtedly shape the state’s political landscape and governance.
