Joshi, who oversees the Coal and Mines portfolio, mentioned that the party has yet to decide whether Sitharaman and Jaishankar will contest from Karnataka, the state they currently represent in the Rajya Sabha. Quoting Joshi, “More or less, it is final that they will contest the Lok Sabha elections. It has not been decided yet from where they will fight, whether it is in Karnataka or some other state.”

Addressing speculations about a potential contest in Bengaluru, Joshi remained evasive, stating, “How can I answer when nothing has been finalized?” He later retracted a previous remark, clarifying, “I have only said that anybody can contest, and not specifically named anyone. It is a national party, and our leadership will decide.”
Nirmala Sitharaman, who joined the BJP in 2008, has an extensive political career, including serving as the national spokesperson until 2014. She became a member of the Rajya Sabha from Andhra Pradesh in the same year Narendra Modi assumed the prime ministership. Sitharaman later held the position of defense minister from 2017 to 2019.
S Jaishankar, a career diplomat, served as the foreign secretary in 2015. In 2019, he entered Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet and was nominated to the Rajya Sabha. Known for his staunch defense of Indian foreign policy on international forums, Jaishankar has gained popularity on social media over the years.
This unexpected move sets the stage for an intriguing electoral dynamic, leaving both party supporters and political observers eager to witness the unfolding developments.
