Authorities Issue Avalanche Warning Across J-K Amidst Severe Weather
In the face of challenging weather conditions marked by rain and snow, authorities issued an avalanche warning on Monday for the higher elevations of ten districts in Jammu and Kashmir for the next 24 hours, according to officials.
The Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority (JKDMA) indicated a “low danger” level avalanche is expected at 2500 meters above sea level in the elevated areas of Anantnag and Kulgam districts in south Kashmir within the next 24 hours. Additionally, an avalanche with a “medium danger” level is anticipated above 2200 meters in Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch, and Ramban districts in the Jammu division, as well as in Bandipora and Baramulla districts in the Kashmir valley.
Similarly, a high danger avalanche is forecasted above 2200 meters in Kupwara in north Kashmir and Ganderbal in central Kashmir during the next 24 hours. Residents in these regions have been strongly advised to exercise caution, refraining from venturing into avalanche-prone areas until further notice.
The upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir have been experiencing continuous snowfall over the past two days, leading authorities to issue a fresh avalanche warning as a precautionary measure. In light of these conditions, individuals residing in the mentioned districts are urged to take necessary precautions. Furthermore, authorities have emphasized the importance of dialing 112 in case of emergencies for prompt assistance.
