Australia Captain Pat Cummins Responds to Hafeez’s Remarks on Pakistan’s Performance in 2nd Test
Pakistan’s emotional rollercoaster in the second Test against Australia saw their skipper, Mohammad Hafeez, lauding their collective effort despite falling short of victory. Hafeez claimed Pakistan played “better cricket as a team,” expressing pride in their aggressive approach but lamenting crucial mistakes.
Australia’s captain, Pat Cummins, brushed off Hafeez’s praise, emphasizing the significance of securing the win. “Glad we got the win. Doesn’t really matter, does it? It matters who wins at the end,” Cummins remarked in response to Hafeez’s assertions.
The match initially appeared poised for a nail-biting finish with Pakistan in a strong position at 219 for 5, needing 98 runs for victory. However, Cummins and Mitchell Starc delivered a compelling fast-bowling spectacle, leading Australia to a 79-run triumph, securing a consecutive win.
While Pakistan showcased resilience, they struggled with lapses, conceding 52 extra runs in bowling inaccuracies during the first innings. This became particularly evident as their batting lineup collapsed, losing five crucial wickets for a mere 46 runs.
Reflecting on missed opportunities, Hafeez highlighted Pakistan’s errors, including dropping catches and squandering advantageous positions. He acknowledged that rectifying these moments could have altered the game’s outcome significantly.
Looking ahead to the final Test of the series at the Sydney Cricket Ground on January 3, Pakistan aims to address their weaknesses and seize opportunities to secure at least one victory against Australia.
