Australia beat Pakistan by 360 runs in a Dominant Show
In a commanding performance, Australia cruised to victory against Pakistan in a high-octane encounter. Chasing a formidable target of 450, the visitors faced a daunting task and eventually succumbed meekly, primarily due to the exceptional bowling prowess of the Australian attack.
Off-spinner Nathan Lyon was the star with the ball, claiming crucial wickets and achieving a significant milestone. Lyon reached the coveted 500-wicket mark in Test cricket, an accomplishment he reached by trapping Faheem Ashraf lbw and subsequently bowling Aamer Jamal in the same over.
This feat secured his place in an elite club of only seven other players, including renowned spinners Muttiah Muralitharan of Sri Lanka and Australia’s Shane Warne.
Australia, after being stranded on 499 runs in Pakistan’s first innings, came back strong, dismissing the opposition for 271.
They declared their own innings on day four at 233-5, with skipper Pat Cummins making a strategic call after opener Usman Khawaja’s resilient 90-run knock, supported by Mitchell Marsh’s unbeaten 63.
Pakistan’s hopes were quickly dashed as they faced an arduous chase. A dreadful start saw Abdullah Shafique and skipper Shan Masood departing early, courtesy of Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood’s lethal bowling.
Despite some resistance from Babar Azam and Saud Shakeel, Pakistan faltered when Azam fell to Pat Cummins, as wicketkeeper Alex Carey made no mistake behind the stumps.
The post-tea session saw further collapse in Pakistan’s batting lineup, as Lyon and Hazlewood continued their dominance, eventually cleaning up the tail-enders to secure a comprehensive victory for the Australian team.
