Assam Road Accident: Bus Driver Killed, 32 BSF Personnel Injured in NH-27 Collision

ASSAM, October 9, 2026 [VoM News]: In Assam’s Barpeta district, at the intersection of the National Highway-27 and Howly village, a bus carrying BSF officials returning from their polling duty struck a truck in which the driver was killed and 32 officials were injured.

Earlier reports suggested the bus was en route to Dhubri, and had crashed at the back of a truck near Howly.

Out of 32, 14 BSF personnel sustained serious injuries which were admitted in Barpeta Medical College and Hospital (BMCH) for treatment.

One of the injured was in critical condition and in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital, the sources said.

The deceased bus driver turned out to be 42-year-old Samsul Hoque from Garoimari, Shimlitola area of Goalpara district in Assam. He was killed in the accident, he is said.

After the collision took place, local police and emergency response personnel arrived at the site to help those injured and to begin required post collision procedures.

The Howly Police have opened an initial investigation to determine what happened in the accident. Authorities will investigate the vehicles involved in the accident and other factors to find out what caused the accident.
