Arrest Warrant Issued for Louise Khurshid in Alleged Fund Misuse Case
In a significant development, an MP-MLA court has issued an arrest warrant against Louise Khurshid, the wife of former external affairs minister Salman Khurshid. The case revolves around the alleged misuse of government funds in a program organized by Dr Zakir Hussain Memorial Trust for Disabled Persons, overseen by Louise Khurshid in Bhojipura district.
Background of the Case: Government Funds Misused in 2009-10 Program
The controversy dates back to the 2009-10 program aimed at distributing artificial limbs and equipment. Government scrutiny was initiated after receiving allegations of discrepancies, leading to the discovery of misuse of government funds. The investigation revealed the use of fake seals and signatures in the program, prompting the registration of a case in 2017 at the Bhojipura police station.
Legal Proceedings: Arrest Warrant and Next Hearing
The Special MP-MLA court, presided over by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Shambhavi, issued an arrest warrant against Louise Khurshid and another individual. The next date of hearing has been fixed for February 16. Despite summonses issued by the court on multiple occasions, the accused, including Louise Khurshid, neither appeared nor sought bail in the case.
Prosecutor’s Statement: Misuse of Government Funds Unveiled
Special Public Prosecutor Achintya Dwivedi highlighted the misuse of government funds, emphasizing that fake seals and signatures were used in the program. The case names Louise Khurshid and the organization’s secretary, Mohammad Athar Farooqui, as accused. The police had previously filed a charge sheet against both individuals.
This development adds a legal dimension to the allegations of fund misuse, and the court proceedings will play a crucial role in determining the outcome of the case against Louise Khurshid.
