Reckless Driving Caught on Camera: Alto Car Crash on Thakraie-Kishtwar Road Sparks Outrage and Action
Kishtwar, Jammu & Kashmir – In a deeply concerning incident that has sparked widespread outrage and prompted immediate action by authorities, a shocking accident occurred on the Thakraie-Kishtwar Road near Kuriya in Kishtwar district. The accident involved an Alto car bearing registration number JK17/5456, which lost control due to negligent and dangerously reckless driving practices, reportedly involving stunt attempts on a public road. The crash, which resulted in injuries to two individuals, was caught on camera and has since gone viral on social media platforms.
The disturbing footage shows the vehicle being driven in an unsafe manner, clearly indicating a blatant disregard for road safety and public well-being. The car, driven with excessive speed and lack of control, ultimately skidded and crashed, leaving bystanders horrified and passengers injured. The video’s circulation online has drawn widespread criticism, with many demanding strict penalties for such irresponsible behavior.
In a swift and decisive response, the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Kishtwar took immediate action to address the gravity of the situation. The driver’s license was cancelled, and the car’s registration certificate (RC) was revoked. The vehicle has also been officially blacklisted, marking a stern warning to those who may consider endangering lives through such careless actions.

Authorities have confirmed that the driver has been booked and legal proceedings are underway. The transport department has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards rash driving, especially in hilly and sensitive terrains like Kishtwar where road safety is already a critical concern. Officials emphasized that the consequences of reckless driving are not only legal but potentially fatal, and that such violations will be met with the harshest penalties under the Motor Vehicles Act and Indian Penal Code.
This incident has reignited public debate about road safety awareness, enforcement of traffic laws, and the role of social media in both exposing and sometimes glamorizing dangerous behavior. While the viral video served as key evidence leading to official action, it also highlighted the pressing need for better education about responsible driving, particularly among young drivers who may be influenced by thrill-seeking trends.
