AIIMS Jammu OPD and Other Services to Start Soon, Says Health Minister Nadda

JAMMU: Within a fortnight, the out-patient department (OPD) services will commence at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Jammu, announced Union Health Minister J P Nadda on Sunday.

Accompanied by Union Minister Jitendra Singh, Nadda conducted an inspection of the Vijaypur campus of AIIMS, reviewing its facilities and infrastructure. He expressed optimism that with these new services, patients from Jammu and Kashmir, as well as neighboring areas of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, would no longer need to travel to PGI Chandigarh or Delhi for treatment.

During his visit, Nadda highlighted the significant progress AIIMS Vijaypur has made. “This is my first visit to AIIMS Vijaypur after Prime Minister Narendra Modi assigned me to the health ministry. I inspected the facilities and was given a presentation,” he stated.

Nadda praised the institute’s facilities, infrastructure, equipment, and logistics, which he said were at par with world standards.Nadda, who also serves as the BJP national president, noted that OPD services and other facilities would start within two weeks based on his inspection and discussions with hospital authorities.

He emphasized the rapid pace of faculty recruitment, aiming to bring in the best doctors and professors. “A hospital like AIIMS requires at least a decade to grow to its full potential,” he added.

A Gift to the People of Jammu

The AIIMS Vijaypur, Nadda said, is a gift from Prime Minister Modi to the people of Jammu. He lauded Modi’s leadership for driving comprehensive development in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in the health sector. “Under the visionary leadership of Modi, not just health, but every sector has experienced immense growth.

Modi has brought a new wave of comprehensive development into Jammu and Kashmir, advancing the state towards prosperity and growth,” he said.Nadda also mentioned that the AIIMS in Jammu, inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi in February this year, currently educates four batches of medical students.

The first batch began with 50 students, followed by 62 students each in the second and third batches, and 100 students in the fourth batch.

Future Plans and National Health Initiatives

Addressing a gathering of students, Nadda reiterated that with AIIMS Jammu operational, patients from the region would no longer need to travel to other states for treatment. He urged doctors to ensure that government healthcare schemes like Ayushman Bharat reach common citizens.

Nadda outlined future plans, including the digitization of health records across the country, moving towards a more integrated and efficient healthcare system. He acknowledged the high expectations and aspirations of the Indian populace from the healthcare system, emphasizing the need to meet these to their satisfaction.

He praised Indian doctors for their excellence and professionalism, noting their crucial role in healthcare systems globally. Nadda called for a collaborative synergy between different branches of medical science, highlighting the complementary strengths of allopathy and ayurveda.

Reflecting on India’s progress, Nadda remarked that there was a time when doctors left India due to lack of facilities and education. “However, today, we have 22 AIIMS, offering world-class facilities and infrastructure, transforming our healthcare landscape,” he concluded.
