Afghanistan Triumphs over UAE in T20I Opener with Gurbaz’s Stunning Century
In the thrilling opening T20I clash at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Afghanistan secured a convincing 72-run victory against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Friday.
Opting to field first after winning the toss, UAE’s decision backfired as Afghanistan’s dominant batting display set an imposing target for the hosts.
While Afghan opener Hazratullah Zazai had a brief stint, Rahmanullah Gurbaz stole the show with a scintillating century, scoring a blazing 100 runs off just 52 deliveries.
Gurbaz’s remarkable innings was well supported by Ibrahim Zadran, who contributed a vital 59 runs from 43 balls, establishing a strong foundation for Afghanistan. Among the UAE bowlers, Muhammad Jawadullah, Junaid Siddique, and Aayan Khan managed to secure wickets but couldn’t contain Afghanistan’s aggressive run-scoring.
In response, UAE’s Vriitya Aravind displayed resilience, scoring an unbeaten 70 runs off 64 balls in the second innings. However, despite Aravind’s determined knock, UAE struggled to form substantial partnerships and chase down the formidable target set by Afghanistan.Afghanistan’s bowling unit put up an impressive show to defend their total.
Fazalhaq Farooqi led the attack, claiming two wickets while conceding only 19 runs in his four-over spell. Additionally, Naveen-ul-Haq and Qais Ahmad picked up one wicket each, contributing to Afghanistan’s comprehensive victory in the opening encounter of the three-match series.Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s stellar performance with the bat earned him the ‘Player of the Match’ title, marking a remarkable start to the series for Afghanistan.
