Three ICC Judges File Lawsuit Against Trump Administration Over ‘Unlawful’ Sanctions in Manhattan Court

Three ICC Judges File Lawsuit Trump Administration Over ‘Unlawful’ Sanctions in Manhattan Court

VoM News Desk, June 25, 2026: Renewing debate over the limits of executive sanctions powers and the relationship between the United States and the International Criminal Court (ICC), a new development has emerged.

Challenging sanctions imposed by the Trump administration last year, three judges of the International Criminal Court have filed a lawsuit in a Manhattan federal court, according to details available with VoM News.

Reports state that the judges include Kimberly Prost, Solomy Balungi Bossa, and Reine Alapini-Gansou. They argue that the measures amount to unlawful pressure on the court and its members.

Their lawsuit further alleges that the sanctions were intended to punish them for judicial decisions involving Israel and the United States, including arrest warrants issued for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the court’s investigation into alleged war crimes by US forces in Afghanistan.

The judges have contended that the restrictions target their personal and financial interests outside normal legal processes, undermining judicial independence.

Irrespective of the case, US sanctions can create wide-ranging consequences for individuals, including restrictions on banking, payments, and access to digital platforms connected to US companies.

The lawsuit further argues that such measures may complicate travel and make it difficult for sanctioned individuals to receive salaries or conduct routine financial transactions internationally.

The case has renewed debate over the limits of executive sanctions powers and the relationship between the United States and the International Criminal Court, which Washington does not recognise as having jurisdiction over US citizens.
