425 Drug Peddlers Arrested in Baramula
The Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir has made significant strides in the battle against drug peddlers, with a remarkable achievement in 2023. Under the vigilant efforts of the Baramulla Police, a total of 425 drug peddlers, including 69 hardcore offenders, have been arrested, and 242 cases have been filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, highlighting the ongoing commitment of the authorities to tackle this menace head-on.
Cracking Down on Hardcore Offenders
As of October 31, the police have been relentless in their pursuit of drug peddlers, leading to the arrest of 425 individuals involved in drug-related activities. Among these, 69 hardcore drug peddlers have been apprehended and booked under the NDPS Act and the Public Safety Act (PSA). This resolute action sends a clear message that there is no leniency for those deeply involved in the drug trade.

Confiscating Illicit Wealth and Contraband
Beyond the arrests, authorities have also managed to attach properties of the drug peddlers, collectively valued in crores, effectively disrupting their illegal operations. The police have made substantial seizures of contraband items worth crores in the black market. Additionally, properties belonging to the peddlers, including three houses, three vehicles, and a significant cash sum of Rs 1.2 Crore, have been seized.
Turning the Tide Against Drug Proliferation
The efforts of the Baramulla Police are evident in the positive shift in the number of registered cases in recent months. While the first half of the year saw an alarming increase, the second half showed a decline, with only 11 cases registered in October. This encouraging trend signifies the impact of the relentless campaign against drug peddling.
Seizures and Call to Action
Aside from the arrests and case filings, the police have seized substantial amounts of various narcotics, including brown sugar, heroin, charas, pomegranate straw, and cannabis powder, collectively valued at crores. Additionally, 31 vehicles and cash amounting to Rs 1.13 crore have been confiscated during this period.
The success in Baramulla’s battle against drug peddling is a testament to the unwavering commitment of the local authorities and the trust and support of the citizens. The police will continue to confront drug smugglers and seize both their assets and illicit properties within the district.
