Crackdown on Protesters in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir; India Condemns, Urges International Community To Hold Pakistan Accountable

NEW DELHI, JUNE 10, 2026 [VoM News]: Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) is under severe restrictions as the Pakistan military has allegedly resorted to firing on innocent protesters agitating for their demands, leading to three dozens of casualties and multiple injuries, according to global media reports.

The occupied territory is also witnessing a severe internet shutdown, once again highlighting the situation at the global level and drawing international condemnation.

The protests escalated after the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), a civil society alliance, was banned by the administration, severely affecting normal life.

Businesses remained closed, internet services were suspended, while massive protests, stone pelting and disruption of transport services were reported from several areas.

A major crackdown has reportedly been launched against members of the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), with rewards allegedly announced for those providing information about their presence or helping authorities in their arrest.

As the protests were centred around governance issues and economic hardships, security forces reportedly used forceful measures to disperse the crowds, resulting in deadly confrontations.

The Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) had called for demonstrations against the reservation of 12 seats for refugees out of 45 ahead of the July 27 legislative elections.

Muzaffarabad, Rawalkot and the Bhimber sector are believed to be among the major hotspots where violence has taken place.

Amid growing global condemnation, India also strongly condemned the alleged brutal crackdown on protesters.

The Ministry of External Affairs stated that there were reports of a brutal crackdown and killings of protesters, and urged international bodies to hold Pakistan accountable.
