A new twist has emerged in the political arena after a court in Bengaluru ordered action against the Karnataka Home Minister following a private complaint filed over a betting statement made in public.

As per NDTV report, G. Parameshwara, who heads the Karnataka Home Department—has landed in trouble after he made a statement about an alleged Rs 500 bet during a kabaddi tournament, which led to controversy.

As per details available with VoM News, the minister made the statement during a state-level pre-university college kabaddi tournament held in Tumakuru, where Parameshwara had reportedly placed a friendly wager of Rs 500 with the District Deputy Commissioner, Shubha Kalyan, predicting that the Vijayapura team would win the match.

However, the Dakshina Kannada team emerged victorious, defeating Vijayapura 36-26.

While distributing prizes to the winning team, the minister publicly acknowledged the bet.

H.R. Nagabhushan filed a private complaint, arguing that holding a key constitutional position and making a betting statement in public is illegal and cannot be encouraged.

Following this, the 42nd Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Judge K.N. Shivakumar, in Bengaluru ordered the police to register a First Information Report (FIR) and conduct a detailed investigation.
