Embassy of India in Tehran Advises Indians To Leave Iran
The Indian Embassy in Tehran has advised all Indian nationals to leave Iran “by available means of transport, including commercial flights,” amid concerns over possible US military strikes in the coming days.
The advisory applies to students, pilgrims, businesspersons and tourists currently in Iran. It reiterates an earlier notice issued on January 14, 2026, urging Indian citizens and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) to exercise caution, avoid protest areas, remain in contact with the embassy and monitor local media for updates.
Indian nationals have been asked to keep travel and immigration documents — including passports and identification papers — readily accessible at all times. The embassy has also urged citizens to register with it and has shared emergency contact numbers and an email address for assistance.
Protests, Nuclear Talks Heighten Tensions
The advisory comes amid renewed anti-government protests in Iran following 40-day memorials for those killed during January demonstrations. According to Iranian state media, students protested at several universities in Tehran and Mashhad. Videos verified by AFP showed crowds chanting anti-government slogans at Sharif University in Tehran.
Meanwhile, the United States and Iran are scheduled to hold another round of nuclear talks in Geneva on Thursday. Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi confirmed the discussions, with Oman continuing its role as mediator.
Under President Donald Trump, the US administration has reportedly increased military aircraft movements toward the Middle East as negotiations over a potential nuclear deal remain fragile. Flight tracking data indicate the deployment of personnel, munitions and equipment to the region, further raising tensions.
The situation has prompted precautionary measures by several countries, with India urging its citizens to prioritise safety and remain vigilant.
