
- Union Budget 2026–27: Jammu and Kashmir Gets ₹43,290 Crore, Ladakh Allocated ₹4,869 Crore
New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday announced a ₹43,290.29 crore allocation for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in the Union Budget for 2026–27, marking an increase of nearly ₹2,000 crore over the ongoing financial year.
According to Budget documents, the allocation represents the total transfers to Jammu and Kashmir for the next financial year. For 2025–26, the assistance to the Union Territory has been revised to ₹41,340 crore, up from the earlier estimate of ₹41,000.07 crore, reflecting an increase of ₹340 crore.
The proposed allocation for 2026–27 includes ₹42,650 crore as central assistance to bridge the resource gap, ₹279 crore as grants for the Union Territory Disaster Response Fund, ₹259 crore as equity support for the Jhelum–Tawi Flood Recovery Project, and ₹101 crore towards capital expenditure assistance.
Meanwhile, the Union government has also proposed a ₹4,869.31 crore allocation for the Union Territory of Ladakh for the financial year 2026–27. In the 2025–26 Budget, Ladakh was allocated ₹4,692.15 crore, while the revised estimates for the same year stood significantly higher at ₹7,377.43 crore, comprising ₹5,029 crore for revenue expenditure and ₹2,347.43 crore for capital expenditure.
For 2026–27, the proposed Ladakh allocation includes ₹2,542.26 crore for revenue expenditure and ₹2,327.05 crore for capital expenditure, as per the Budget documents released on Sunday.
The enhanced allocations for both Union Territories underline the Centre’s focus on development, infrastructure creation, disaster management, and fiscal support in strategically important regions of the country.
