Rajouri: Woman Found With Hands and Feet Tied in Sack, Police Probe Underway
Rajouri, Jan 19 — Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district have launched an investigation after a disturbing video surfaced showing women with their hands tied and wrapped in sacks in the Tandwal area, officials said on Sunday.
The case came to light after a 45-year-old woman, identified as Azeem Akhtar, was found alive but in critical condition inside a large plastic bag late Sunday evening. The sack was spotted lying in bushes along an isolated stretch in Tandwal, on the outskirts of Rajouri town. Locals alerted the police after hearing faint cries for help.
When police and residents reached the spot, they found the woman with her hands and feet tightly bound with rope and her body sealed inside the plastic bag. Investigators believe she managed to tear part of the sack using her teeth, suggesting she was left for dead by the perpetrators.
Akhtar was immediately rescued and rushed to the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital, Rajouri, where she remains under treatment. Doctors have described her condition as serious.
The victim was later identified as the wife of Sabar Hussain, a resident of Kakora village in Manjakote. The family is currently living in a rented accommodation in Ward No. 9 of Rajouri town. Police have informed her relatives and are awaiting her recovery to record a detailed statement.
“Once her condition stabilises and she is able to speak, her statement will be crucial in establishing what exactly happened,” a police official said.
According to preliminary information, Akhtar had come to Rajouri for some personal work and boarded an auto-rickshaw. She reportedly told police that she has no recollection of events after that until she regained consciousness inside the sack.

Investigators are examining multiple angles, including attempted murder and possible sexual assault. Police have not ruled out personal rivalry as a motive. Officials confirmed that the husband of one of the women linked to the case is currently in jail in connection with a POCSO case involving the harassment of a minor.
Meanwhile, police have also taken cognisance of the video circulating on social media and are probing the circumstances under which it was recorded and shared. “We are working on all leads. The incident is serious and will be investigated thoroughly,” an official said.
The shocking episode has sparked concern among local residents, with many calling for swift action against those responsible. Further investigation is underway.
