The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Party Vice President, Omar Abdullah, criticized the central government during a one-day delegate session in Surankote, Poonch. He raised concerns about the absence of democracy in Jammu and Kashmir and pointed out the oppressive policies of the incumbent bureaucratic setup.

    Democracy Denied: J&K’s Decade-Long Struggle

Omar Abdullah passionately expressed his disappointment over the central government’s inability to restore democracy in Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized that while India proudly proclaims itself as the “mother of democracy” on the global stage, the same democracy seems elusive for the people of J&K. He further lamented that J&K has not seen Assembly elections since 2014, leaving the region without a democratic government for nearly a decade. Despite the widespread desire to restore democracy among the people, the current administration has shown little commitment to address this urgent matter.

    The Toll of Anti-People Policies

Omar Abdullah did not mince words when he called out the anti-people policies of the incumbent bureaucratic setup. He highlighted how citizens were suffering due to increased electricity bills, toll taxes, inflation, and ration curtailment. He questioned the rationale behind the installation of digital meters, followed by smart meters, and demanded accountability for the substantial expenses incurred. Additionally, he drew attention to the deteriorating condition of roads, particularly the prolonged work on the road to Surankote, which the government appears disinterested in completing. Omar also criticized the government for focusing on opening liquor stores across J&K while essential services remained neglected.

    Rampant Corruption and Incompetence

The NC Vice President condemned the government’s inaction in addressing rampant corruption within the administration. He noted that even senior government officials were alleging embezzlement of crores of rupees without proper investigations. He questioned the selective targeting of political parties by investigative agencies and the apparent concealment of multi-crore scams involving the Jammu and Kashmir government.

Omar Abdullah also highlighted the failures of the incumbent administration on multiple fronts, including the difficulties faced by government employees trying to withdraw their GP funds. He pointed out that government employees, initially optimistic about J&K’s transition to Union Territories, were now struggling to access their GP funds for essential expenses. He expressed similar concerns for daily wage earners who were receiving empty promises rather than meaningful support.

In conclusion, Omar Abdullah reassured the audience that the National Conference Party, if elected, would prioritize the regularization of all 60,000 daily wage earners in the region. This would be part of their commitment to rectify the governance issues plaguing Jammu and Kashmir.Earlier, Omar Abdullah paid his respects during a brief visit to Herpora, where he offered condolences and interacted with local leaders. This visit highlighted the party’s commitment to addressing the concerns of the people in various regions of Jammu and Kashmir.
