Persistent Negligence by Power Department Leaves Doda’s Marmat Residents Sweating in the Heat

Marmat, Doda – July 2: Amid soaring summer temperatures, the people of Marmat are left to suffer due to the continued negligence of the Power Development Department (PDD). Since around 4:30 PM today, the entire region from Khelani upwards has been plunged into darkness. Residents report that the outage is once again being attributed to a fault in the 33kV line—a reason frequently cited by the department during such power cuts.
Locals are growing increasingly frustrated as this recurring issue has not been resolved for months. The so-called “33kV fault” has become a routine excuse, with no permanent solution in sight.

“This has been happening for a long time. Whenever there is a power cut, the same excuse is given, but no one seems serious about fixing it,” a resident said.

Adding to the frustration is the fact that summer vacations are currently underway. Many government employees posted outside the area, as well as students studying in cities, return home during this time hoping to find some relief. However, even in the unbearable heat, Marmat remains deprived of regular electricity, unlike the areas they come from, which are experiencing more reliable power supply and comparatively lower temperatures.
People have now appealed to the District Development Commissioner and the concerned Exn to intervene immediately and resolve the issue once and for all. They demand not only the restoration of power but also accountability for the department’s repeated failures and negligence.
