CJP Leaders Ashutosh Ranka, Saurav Das Remain in Tihar as Judicial Custody Extended by Two Days
NEW DELHI, October 19, 2026 [VoM News]: A Special Executive Magistrate in Delhi on Monday extended the judicial custody of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das by two days, keeping them in Tihar Jail until their next hearing on Wednesday.
The two were detained on October 13 after allegedly entering Jantar Mantar by scaling its locked gates following the site’s removal from the list of designated protest venues. They were sent to five days of judicial custody on October 14.
Ranka and Das were produced before the Special Executive Magistrate at Mandir Marg police station on Monday before being taken back to Tihar Jail.
CJP legal head Ratna Singh criticised the proceedings, alleging that authorities had failed to provide sufficient grounds for keeping the two leaders in custody and had unnecessarily delayed their release.
The party has also alleged that sureties submitted for their release were rejected and accused authorities of using procedural delays to prolong their detention. These allegations have been disputed in the context of police concerns that their release could affect public peace and tranquillity.
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke also criticised the continued detention, saying the two had remained determined despite spending five days in jail.
The arrests came amid CJP protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and the denotification of Jantar Mantar as a designated protest venue.
